Finance Minister Arrives in Brussels for 121st OACPS Ministerial Council Meeting

Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim1Minister of Finance, Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim, arrived in Brussels on Wednesday leading Sudan's delegation to the 121st Ordinary Session of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), taking place on July 15–16.
The meeting brings together ministers and representatives of OACPS member states to discuss a range of issues related to the organization's work and ways to strengthen cooperation among its members. The agenda also includes discussions on the partnership with the European Union under the Samoa Agreement, signed in November 2023 between the European Union and its member states on one side and the OACPS member states on the other.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the Minister is scheduled to meet with OACPS Secretary-General Moussa Batraki to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between Sudan and the organization, including technical assistance and capacity-building in line with the government's priorities for economic recovery and sustainable development.
At the bilateral level, Dr. Ibrahim is also expected to hold a series of meetings with participating ministers to explore ways of enhancing economic and financial cooperation, exchanging expertise, and strengthening partnerships that serve mutual interests.
The Minister's participation reflects the Sudanese government's commitment to strengthening its engagement in regional and international forums and promoting multilateral cooperation in support of development, stability, and closer collaboration with regional and international partners.
The Ministerial Council is also expected to adopt a resolution granting Sudan a full or partial waiver of its outstanding debt to the organization, amounting to US$1 million, in recognition of the exceptional economic circumstances facing the country as a result of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebellion.
