Prime Minister Briefed on Sudan’s Health Situation

Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris was briefed on the health situation in the country, particularly the epidemiological situation, which has remained stable this year, with declines in dengue fever, malaria, and cholera cases in some states, as well as an overall improvement in health services.
This came during his meeting in Khartoum on Monday with Federal Minister of Health Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, who said in a press statement that the meeting discussed the challenges facing the Ministry of Health amid the advances achieved by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) in some states of Kordofan and Darfur, as well as the urgent need for humanitarian and health interventions in those areas and for essential interventions to support the health system in cooperation with UN agencies and international organizations.
The Health Minister said the meeting also discussed health financing and the major health needs amid declining global support and growing national health needs. He noted that his ministry is making significant efforts in this regard with regional and international partners to bridge the gap, expressing his appreciation to the Ministry of Finance for its continued support for essential health services.
He explained that the meeting also addressed several areas related to the opening and expansion of health services in various Sudanese states, including heart centers in Kassala and Al-Gadharef states and an emergency center in Al-Gezira State. He noted that arrangements are underway for the Prime Minister to attend the inauguration of these expanded health services, expressing hope that such expansion will soon extend to the rest of Sudan’s states, particularly Darfur and Kordofan.
