Prime Minister, Dr. Kamil Idris, met today at his office in Port Sudan with a delegation from the General Federation of Sudanese Trade Unions, receiving a comprehensive briefing on labor affairs.
President of the Federation, Dr. Sir-al-Khatim Al-Amin Abdel-Gadir, told SUNA, after the meeting, that the Prime Minister was fully briefed on the revival of trade unions following the issuance of Constitutional Decree No. (4) of 2025, which repealed Decree No. (1) of 2023. The decree lifted the suspension on trade union activities, allowing the Federation to resume its role with full legal powers. They also discussed ways to advance the Federation’s work in the coming period.
The meeting also addressed the tripartite dialogue between the Federation, the government, and employers.
The Prime Minister agreed to support the Federation’s programs and prioritize resolving workers’ issues before and after the war. Dr. Sir-al-Khatim added that the Workers’ Food Portfolio was also touched on. The Prime Minister pledged attention to this matter, responding positively to a formal request for his sponsorship. The portfolio will be reactivated soon through the High Committee, which includes the Workers’ Bank as a leading institution, the Central Bank of Sudan, and 17 other banks. This initiative will restore the provision of goods for workers as in the past. The revival of the Federation is expected to address the challenges facing Sudanese workers.
